FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY COMES TO FUMC

FUMC WELCOMES SARAH RUTLEDGE, YOUTH DIRECTOR!
Well, Christmas is certainly in the air, isn’t it?!! We’re just starting into the month of December and I’ve already attended one party and have missed three others! This is my first year to go through the ministries of the church with all of you, and I must tell you I’m impressed and pleased with what I see and experience. I’m beginning to learn just how many of our folks are involved in so much that goes on in the church and community. I had to miss Granny’s Kitchen due to an out-of-town wedding, but I couldn’t believe all of the effort, energy and people power that went into making that event so successful. The Journey Through Bethlehem was an impressive event, and a number of our folks were central in making that happen. And, the Christmas float, a project of the Friday Fellowship, was a great accomplishment and a lot of fun. The Angel Tree and the Giving Tree both provide an opportunity to reach out to people in special situations during the holidays. Thanks to all of you for your hard work, dedication, and generosity in supporting the work of the church and insuring the success of our ministries!
The end of the calendar year is also a time of transition for our church staff. Carlo Sosa, who has served as our Youth Director for the past 4 ½ years, will be leaving our staff at the end of the year. Ann Connell, who has served as our Children’s Director for the past three years, has submitted her resignation and will be ending her employment with us at the end of the month in order to pursue other avenues of service. We have been served faithfully and well by these two committed servants, and I hope you will take an opportunity over the next few weeks to express your appreciation to them. On December 28th, during our Sunday School gathering in the Social Hall, we will be saying an “official thank you” to these two for their ministry among us.
The New Year also marks a time of beginnings. Sarah Rutledge, who will be graduating from Texas Lutheran University this month with an undergraduate degree in Theology with a concentration in Youth Ministry, will be joining our staff as the new Director of Youth Ministries. Sarah will be arriving January 3rd and will be introduced to the church and youth on January 4th. Our children’s program will take on a new shape as well. In this area we are moving to a lay led ministry. We have divided Ann’s job into 5 different areas, each to be led by a lay person. We have filled a couple of the spots but still need some assistance with an overall coordinator and individuals to take the lead in children’s Sunday school at 9:45 and 11:00 (this will be a new offering in 2009). If you would be willing to assist with our children’s ministry, we have detailed job descriptions available.
I am acutely aware as to the business of this time of the year … please be sure to remember and truly celebrate the meaning of the season we celebrate … for “the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us.” Thanks be to God!

Pastor Scott
