CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is offered each year for youth in 6th grade and above. The class is designed to study and share the meaning of our Christian faith, history, organization and teachings of The United Methodist Church, to discuss the sacraments and to respond to a call to commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In the context of our faith development, confirmation is an opportunity for our youth to make their personal professions of faith. The class is heavily dependent upon the support of Friends in Faith, parents and the pastors.
DISTRICT CAMP
District Camp is held every summer at our United Methodist camp in Palestine, Texas. It provides faith and fellowship experiences plus daily devotionals. Camp is for children entering 4th to 8th grades in the fall and for junior high and senior high youth.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School Classes are an integral part of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church. Our classes offer the opportunity for children to grow in faith through study and fellowship using the Cokesbury power xpress rotate series for grades 1 thru 5. Classes for children meet from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. The Nursery through 4 Year Olds classes are located in the Preschool Wing (lower level of the office building). The Elementary Classes (Kindergarten - 6th grades) are located on second floor in the Social Hall.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Each summer Vacation Bible School is offered for children in Pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade. VBS is an opportunity for our children to worship together, engage in fellowship, and grow in Christ. Classes are based in United Methodist curriculum and offer creative ways to learn about God and the Bible with a host of fun activities, including music, crafts, recreation, stories, and snacks.
WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
At First United Methodist Church children are always welcome in worship! We feel it is important to make children aware of the service and how we worship together. If you prefer, child care is available for infants and children through 4 years of age. For those children who stay in the Sanctuary to worship with their family, we offer activity sheets, colors, Bibles and books for their use. These are located at the back of the sanctuary annex on the children’s table.
ACOLYTES are provided by our young people in 3rd grade and above. They are responsible for lighting the altar candles on Sunday mornings and presenting the offering plates to the altar. Scheduled training sessions are held as needed.
