There are many ways you can become involved here at First United. Here is a list of just some of some great ways to lend a helping hand. Find what best interests you!

TUESDAY HANDYMEN

This group of men gathers in the church office on Tuesday mornings to do general maintenance and upkeep on the church grounds and buildings. Job assignments range from changing light bulbs to building shelves, setting up tables to changing filters in the A/C. There is usually coffee and cookies involved! For more information, contact Bob Tavenner, (936) 295-5441.

DELIVER MEALS

The Senior Center of Walker County oversees a county-wide Meals-on-Wheels program. Volunteers are needed to pick up meals from the Senior Center located on Hwy 75 North and deliver to a list of elderly recipients. Meal routes generally take about an hour to deliver--one day each week. For more information, call 936-295-6151.

NEWSLETTER LADIES

This group of volunteer women gather in the Conference Room every other week to fold, stuff, label and mail the church newsletter. For more information, call Mary Jo Musgrove, 295-5441.

TEACHING, LEADING AND MENTORING

If you are a gifted teacher or if you have a particular topic or lesson that you would like to present, contact Rev. Ellen Willett at 936-295-5441. There are on-going opportunities for Sunday School teachers at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m., for Wednesday Nite Live class leaders (Fall and Winter) and Bible Studies for all ages.

GREETERS

If you have a friendly smile and are willing to be at church early to greet people on Sundays, this maybe the right position for you.
Schedule.

VOLUNTEER OFFICE

This group of workers assists when special needs arise in the church office--church-wide mailings, telephone assistance, preparation of bulletin boards, filing, etc. For more information, contact Mary Jo Musgrove, 936-295-5441.

BLOOD DONORS

Volunteers are needed to give units of blood through both the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and The American Red Cross. Call Rev. Ellen Willett in the church office, 936-295-5441, to  make sure you are notified when a blood drive is scheduled at the church and/or when there is a special need from our members or community.

CHURCH BUS DRIVERS

First United Methodist Church has two 15-passenger "mini-buses". There is frequent need of drivers for local and/or regional trips. The buses do not require a  CDL, however, drivers must be on our insurance drivers list and receive a brief orientation from Bob Tavenner. To volunteer, call Bob at 936-295-5441.

ASSEMBLE SCHOOL SUPPLIES

The week before school starts, volunteers gather to sort and assemble sacks of grade-appropriate school supplies for children in Walker County. Call Vicki Bailey (936-295-5441) to volunteer.

MUSICIANS

If you like to sing and/or play a musical intrument consider volunteering in the Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church. FUMC's Chancel Choir practices on Wednesday evenings and sings at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services; the New Tradition Praise Team practices on Thursday evenings and leads the 9:45 a.m. worship services; and our newly formed Handbell Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings and plays for various occasions.

MULTI-MEDIA SUPPORT

Volunteers run the projector and sound board for each of worship service. To volunteer to serve or to be trained to serve, contact Vicki Bailey at 936-295-5441.

FOOD SERVICES

If you would like to bake cookies and cakes, or to prepare finger foods for occasional church gatherings, sign up by calling Rev. Ellen Willett at (936-295-5441).

MISSION WORK

If you have willing hands and a servant heart, check out the opportunities for mission trips throughout the year. There are opportunities for local building and repair work as well as hurricane recovery work on the Gulf Coast.

JOURNEY THROUGH BETHLEHEM

Volunteers are needed the first weekend of December to transform the Walker County Fairgrounds into a replica of the City of Bethlehem for our community's celebration of the birth of the Christ Child. At Journey Through Bethlehem volunteers serve as local shopkeepers, fishmongers, bakers and beggars (all in period costume). To learn more or to sign up call Reverend Ellen Willett (936-295-5721).
