A Green Moment:

Are you aware of what materials are considered household hazardous products? Examples of these products are cleaners, pesticides, oil paint, stains, varnishes, polishes and vehicle products. All of these products can contaminate our water, soil and air if disposed of incorrectly. Never put these materials in the trash, drain or burn them. The Huntsville City dump will accept some of the materials mentioned above. Call 294-4607 to find out what products are accepted by the city. How can you help? Buy only what you need. Always buy latex paint, use safe methods for cleaning such as micro-fiber clothes with vinegar, lemons or baking soda.

United Methodist WomenIn Mission for 142 Years

1867 – 2009

The purpose of the United Methodist Women (UMW) is "to know God and to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."

Huntsville First United Methodist Church’s United Methodist Women has 142 members who enjoy fellowship as they meet as one large group six times a year for general meetings and Spiritual Growth Studies. UMW provides fellowship, expanded knowledge through related readings, studies, programs, and district and conference participation. Our small groups encourage supportive fellowship.

There are seven United Methodist Women Circles, where smaller groups meet together monthly for programs and supportive fellowship in their communities or interest groups. There is a circle for working women that meets one Sunday a month, one circle for working women who meet as they have lunch together, one circle that is organized around sewing and crafts, one Wednesday morning circle for Elkins Lake ladies, and several other Tuesday morning circles.

Our United Methodist Women support local, national and world mission work. Thanks to the participation of many church members, as well as funds for much needed mission financial support and for our own church kitchen needs, over $10,000 was raised and donated last year.

The United Methodist Women annual Spiritual Growth Study will be held April 14 and 28. Reverend Scott Dornbush will lead the study "I Believe in Jesus." All women are invited to visit or join the Huntsville United Methodist Women general meetings and circles. Our web page is at www.huntsvillefumc.org under Ministries.

  The purpose of the Reading Program is to encourage United Methodist Women:

  • To expand understanding of and participation in God's mission;
  • To increase sensitivity to all human beings-their needs, interests, and concerns;
  • To encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today;
  • To grow in understanding of Scripture as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life;
  • To enhance self-knowledge and to act from that knowledge;
  • To strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission.
